Preserving and perpetuating the memory and lessons 

of the Holocaust for future generations

About Us

Goal of Program

To educate Jewish teens about the Holocaust as a watershed event in Jewish history and in the history of humanity, and instill in teens responsibility to actively preserve and perpetuate the memory of the Holocaust for future generations.


Participation in Holocaust Legacy Fellows in the pilot year (2018-2019) is by invitation and will include 14 Jewish teens who:

  • Are Juniors in high school as of September 1, 2018
  • Participated in an organized teen Israel experience
  • Must be able to attend all required pre and post-trip meetings
  • Have not previously participated in an organized Holocaust Educational trip to Berlin/Poland

Educate and Travel

Fellows will be invited to participate in a trip to Berlin and Poland. Highlights of the itinerary will include: 


  • Tour of Berlin's Jewish Community
  • Jewish heritage tour of Warsaw, Poland
  • Tour remains of the Warsaw Ghetto
  • Memorial visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau Death Camps
  • Kabbalat Shabbat with local Jewish community
  • Tour Jewish Quarter in Krakow, Poland
  • Memorial visit to Majdanek Death Camp
  • Memorial services
  • Meet Holocaust survivors

Commitment to Excellence

The trip to Berlin and Poland, and pre and post-trip educational meetings are fully subsidized.


Date of Trip to Berlin and Poland 

August 4-13, 2019

The trip will be staffed by Jody Kipnis, Todd Ruderman, Holocaust educator, Deborah Coltin, two adult counselors, an experienced Holocaust tour guide, and a security guard.


Holocaust Legacy Fellows is funded and Co-Directed by Jody Kipnis and Todd Ruderman and implemented in partnership with Lappin Foundation.

Program Requirements

2019 Program Requirements

  • Participate on the trip to Berlin and Poland
  • Attend five pre-trip meetings and one post trip meeting
  • Complete two pre-trip assignments
  • Keep a journal during the trip
  • Write a post-trip reflection on the memory and lessons of the Holocaust
  • Do at least one presentation about your experience at school or in the community
  • Participate in the Holocaust Remembrance Service on January 26 or 27, 2020
  • Serve on Lappin Foundation's Holocaust Speakers Bureau

There will be pre-trip assignments February and June

A refundable deposit of $500 will be required upon teen's acceptance to the program. The deposit will be refunded upon successful completion of the program requirements.
